In recent years, poker is developing rapidly in China; General Administration of Sports-Social Sports Guidance Center has listed poker as formally developed social sport in 2012, and has promoted it around China. Moreover, General Administration of Sports-Chess & Cards Management Center supports trial implementation of poker in Hainan province and Hubei.
CPG China Poker Games is the largest and most influential international poker tournament in China, attracts a large number of tourists, driving the development of local sports tourism industry, poker is a perfect combination of sports and fashion life annual party. In order to promote “Several Opinions of the State Council on promoting the construction of Hainan International Tourism Island” and “Development Outline of Hainan International Tourism Island Construction”, to put it into practice that “trial implement some international tourism and sports entertainment programs”, to implement Hainan Province Government’s “Policies on Supporting and Accelerating the Development of Cultural Industry”, and to speed up the development of Hainan Cultural and Sports Industry, approved by the Hainan Provincial Government, we decide to set up “ China Poker Games”, and this event will be held once a year from 2013, and we will make it an international brand of sports & entertainment & tourism for Hainan International Tourism Island.
近年来，扑克运动在中国发展很快，2012 年国家体育总局社会体育指导中心将扑克运动列为正式开展的社会体育项目并在全国大力推广，国家体育总局棋牌运动管理中心更是支持在湖北省和海南省试行开展（德州）扑克项目。（棋牌字〔2012〕91、235 号）
CPG 中国国际扑克大赛是中国区域规模最大、影响力最大的国际扑克赛事，每年吸引大量中外游客参赛，带动当地体育旅游产业发展，是扑克运动和时尚生活完美结合的年度盛筵。
为推动《国务院关于推进海南国际旅游岛建设发展的若干意见》以及《海南国际旅游岛建设规划发展纲要》关于“在海南试办一些国际通行的旅游体育娱乐项目”落地，贯彻落实海南省人民政府《关于支持文化产业加快发展的若干政策》，加快海南省文化体育产业发展，经国家体育总局棋牌运动管理中心、海南省文化广电出版体育厅和三亚市人民政府同意，“中国海南国际扑克大赛”，2013 年开始每年举办一届，并将此次比赛打造成海南国际旅游岛体育娱乐旅游国际品牌。
