In September of 2005, Staten Island Technical High School was granted the status as New York City’s 7th Specialized High School by the New York City Department of Education. New York City’s Specialized High Schools are comprised of the most academically gifted and talented students.
Admission to Staten Island Technical High School is extremely selective. It based solely upon the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT). In 2016, the SHSAT was administered to over 27,000 New York City students. Of these, nearly 5,106 students were offered admission to one of the NYC Specialized High Schools. Over 15,000 students applied to Staten Island Technical High School and 345 students were offered a seat for the 2017-2018 school-year. Based upon the statistics cited, the students who attend Staten Island Technical High School are of the highest caliber.
The entire student body is comprised of 1,330 students . Staten Island Technical High School’s college and career preparatory curriculum provides rich and challenging learning opportunities. Through courses and Work Based Learning experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM), Humanities and Athletics, students develop a strong aptitude for real-world leadership and problem solving focusing on academics, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills. There is a newly restructured, cutting edge Career Development Program, centering on Work Based Learning experiences, entrepreneurship and internships via our new MakerSpace and Incubator program, named the SITHS Guild.
